Honey
Seen as the more natural choice for sugaring, is honey actually just as calorific value as sugar. But it tastes much sweeter, and its distinctive flavour and weight mean you will probably use a little less. It is also less processed than sugar and contains the compounds thought to function as antioxidants. Hindus believe it is one of the elixir of immortality.

Erythritol
This sugar alcohol is virtually a guilt-free sweet solution. (And the FDA says it is safe!) At 0.1 calories per gram found the white powder from a plant that naturally in many fruits. Plus, it does not lead to tooth decay and other not-so-sweet effects of sugar consumption. It's not quite as cute as natural sugar, so try it in chocolate pastries as brownies.

Stevia
This herb, originally from South America, is extremely sweet by nature but without the calories or sugar-like effects on your body, and you can use as little as a few drops to sweeten a cup of tea or a couple of teaspoons in a dessert. It has a slightly bitter aftertaste, depending on which type you use. Unrefined food is always best, and you can buy Stevia as a simple dried powder. Personally, we use sometimes, but my husband just like a certain brand of Stevia with absolutely no aftertaste (NuNa luck als liquid). It is refined, but it works for us.
